COPYRIGHTS

A copyright protects original works of authorship, for example, books, songs, paintings, performances, architectural drawings, movies and software.  A copyright is acquired automatically upon creation.  A copyright can be federally registered with the U.S. Copyright Office.  A copyright should be properly marked in order to provide notice to third partiies that the work is the subject of a copyright.

A copyright is beneficial in that it can be used to prevent third parties from copying an original work of authorship.

A written agreement is necessary in order to properly transfer, authorize or use a copyright.
